| Today we caught a ferry to the other side of Vancouver to kill some time before picking up the hire car, to start our road trip. We (apparently) saw the world's biggest pool. It's only open 4 months of the year. How crazy! We explored the parks and the water front before heading in to find somewhere for morning tea. We found a little café. Mum and Dad ordered their coffee but unfortunately this particular place didn’t sell milkshakes. I feel like if you have milk and you have flavouring, how hard is it to make a milkshake and add it to your menu? After a quick morning tea break we walked back to the ferry. We walked through the main streets; each side of the street had different coloured trees, which made for an interesting photo opportunity. Crossing the river on the ferry back to the main part of Vancouver we made our long walk to the car hire place to pick up our hire car. My fingers were crossed for a dodge, something with style. We got a soccer mums car. A Mazda 5 to be exact. We jumped in. With dad in the drivers seat, we made our way out of the car park and back to the hotel to collect our bags. We only got honked at ten times in the 2-minute drive back to the hotel! It was a bit hectic to start with getting out of the city, with one-way streets and traveling on the wrong side of the road for us but it didn’t take us too long and we were on the road to our first stop, which was Whistler. The road here tells you when there is a point of interest coming up with some information such as what it is and where to go. What a great idea! It makes it very easy to get around. The first one we passed was an awesome waterfall coming down the side of the mountain, but we only got to see it from the road. So the next one we pulled over, it was a short walk to an amazing view of a waterfall. Brandywine falls to be exact. I had be researching places we could go and images I wanted to capture the night before on Instagram and Trover. This happened to be one of the waterfalls I wanted to see. You could imagine my excitement when we arrived. Back on the road again and it wasn’t too much further until we arrived in Whistler. I don’t think I’ve seen such a pretty town, all the hotels were cute, and the mountains were pretty. We haven’t even got to our hotel yet and I was in love with this place. The buildings were authentic. It was a very eye catching town and I couldn’t wait to explore it. We dropped our bags off at the hotel, (Ava) and started exploring the town. I was running everywhere with excitement, it was time for lunch and there was so many options available I didn’t know what to have. We ended up at a pub. I shared a potato and bacon pizza and a baked avocado, with mum. It was pretty good. The entire waitstaff suddenly got excited, Bindi Irwin and her mum just made a reservation for dinner! After lunch we went for a little walk around the village. I really wanted to try the bobsleighing but unfortunately it was closed so the next best thing was the west coast slide. We took the GoPro on to get some footage. It got up to some pretty high speeds. We were trying to make our way back to the hotel when mum and I got lost. We stopped for a quick photo opportunity next to the whistler sign, we turned around and Dad and my sister Brooke were nowhere to be found. We thought they couldn’t have gone too far and we should continue to follow the path. We didn’t realize how huge the whistler village is. We got the giggles, as we knew they would be annoyed with us, plus we had all the money and room keys. We walked and walked and couldn’t find the hotel. Which only made us giggle even more. After an hour or more we finally found the hotel again. Brooke and Dad had gotten another key from reception and were sitting in the room. Now we were all back together we went out to grab some dinner. Australian Pies were the pick! And we couldn’t leave Whistler without getting a Pandora charm. There is heaps to see and I wish we could have stayed longer. We were off to bed as we had a huge day ahead, exploring the peak to peak and a five-hour drive to our next destination. Stay tuned for the next blog! Peak to Peak!! |
