Date 30.6.15 Location: Whistler Accommodation: Aava Whistler Hotel I had barely slept; maybe I was to excited to sleep. My Sister and I got up early and walked around the golf course at whistler in hunt for a bear. As we approached the golf course we met some friendly staff member’s, who unfortunately informed us it was the wrong time of the year to see a bear on the course. However they did let us know of a few spots we could take some photos nice and early in the morning. Today was the day we got to experience Whistlers Peak to Peak. Obviously excited we headed to the chair lift to start our adventure for the day bright and timely. We started at the Blackcomb base and made our way up the mountain on the wizard express. There are chairlifts upon chairlifts, all different shapes and sizes and heading in all different direction. We took three different chair lifts up to the top of Blackcomb Mountain. In whistler, Canada, currently its there summer, it was a warm 30 degrees in the town hence why we dressed in shorts for the day. Expecting to see some patches of snow of course. Well weren’t we wrong there was a whole field of snow at the peak of Blackcomb and thousand people skiing. It was pretty cool, to say the least. But the views were amazing. We were left speechless, and not to concerned about the cold. After exploring this side of the mountain, capturing a few shots on the camera and having a little snow fight, we made our way back down towards to gondolas which take you over to another mountain, Whistler Mountain. The total distance from peak to peak is just over 4km. Did you know, that 3km of that cable is unsupported by towers? How it works is just amazing. My Sister and I had hoped we would see snow. We found a patch that we had all to ourselves. I tried to do a snow angle but I couldn't move my feet or I would slide down the mountain. Although I had my non-slip shoes on, the snow was very icy. We lost track of time as we were having so much fun frolicking in the snow. Our parents had to find us, letting us know its time to head to the Whistler peak. Our last chairlift right to the topmost point of the mountain was called the peak. It was the most thrilling. Below you it would drop off to sheer cliff faces. We were so high up. My family I believe were feeling a little scared, so of course they started making jokes. I was afraid to move, but struggling not to laugh. But again once we reached the top we were left astounded from the view. We couldn’t believe what we were seeing. Unfortunately today we also have to make a five-hour drive to our next destination, which is Kamloops. And as they say all good things have to come to an end. So unfortunately it was time to head down from the mountain. Taking another enclosed gondola all the way down to the bottom. This was a rather long ride, allowing you to take in the view. We were watching all the mountain bike rides go down the mountain. I must say I was glad I was in the gondola, and not going down the mountain on a bike. There is so much to do in whistler, regardless of what season it is. Which is one of the reason I love Whistler and I can’t wait to return. Plus they had good pizza. Before jumping in the car we quickly grabbed a bite to eat. It was blue cheese and beef for me. Back in our Mazda 5 and on our way to out next destination, sharing out the window in awe of the beautiful scenery around. Could life get much better? Keep an eye out for the next blog! And Read how we celebrated Canada Day! | |
