I was recently inspired by a new small camera company called Light and their #VantagePoint project, that includes a compilation of some photographers favourite shots from their travels and the story behind it.
We were staying in the famous Fairmount at Lake Louise! This day was long awaited and the chance of seeing the northern lights was a strong possibility! Unfortunately, when we arrived there was a lot of cloud cover! I had everything crossed hoping it would clear throughout the night and we could fulfil a lifelong dream of viewing the northern lights!
Sleep was limited that night, I was on Constant watch of any glow peeking through the clouds, there was no way I was missing a chance to see such a phenomenon. Disappointed with no northern lights, waking early morning I checked out the window one more time and decided sunrise couldn’t be missed. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity. Quickly I got changed and sneaked out the hotel room down to the lake, careful not to wake up the rest of my family!
There were a few photographers along the waters edge. Sitting there watching the sun move along the mountains I felt so peaceful, so content and happy. For a few minutes, it felt as though time had stopped, allowing me to fully take in the view around me. My images were working out well, the snow-capped mountains and the soft glow from the early morning sun reflected beautifully in the lake!
At this very moment, I was so grateful for not only this experience but my entire family vacation exploring the great Canadian Rockies.
This particular image and experience will forever be one of my favourite memories and photography experience. Being in such a beautiful location and at the right time.
Camera settings:
Exposure/shutter speed- 15 seconds
Aperture- F22
